Welcome

Would you like to feel differently – less stressed, less preoccupied, happier, calmer in your mind and body? Are you hoping to find a way to feel better?

Maybe you are struggling to understand why you feel tense all the time; feel you lack confidence or find your relationships are unsatisfactory.

Do you feel you have to keep going, put on a brave face, be strong, and not let anyone down?

Do you have a sense of impending doom; constantly on edge and feeling anxious or guilty?

Have you suffered a traumatic event, perhaps in childhood, that you’ve never told anyone about, or prefer to keep to yourself in the belief that it’s not really that bad or important?

Penny Cole

We all experience times when we need support and I specialise in helping you to gain a deeper understanding of how your mind, body and emotions relate to each other, to improve your well-being.

I care about the well-being of others and would like to help you to feel better in yourself and become the person you would like to be. This is important because in overcoming anxiety, compulsions, insecurity or overthinking, you will be able to live life to the full, free from self-doubt, annoying behaviours or a deep-seated sense of loneliness.

Who are my clients?

The answer is – people like you and me! I enjoy offering counselling and psychotherapy to a variety of clients over the age of 18 many of whom are looking for help with dealing with anxiety. I particularly enjoy working with older people.

It is usual for people to say ......

I don't know what to do

There's so much I want to talk about and don't know where to start

My wife says I'm cold and unemotional

I feel so lonely all the time, even when with friends or family

I've never told anyone this ....

You'd think that at my age, I would know better

How it works

You may be wondering what it is like to talk to me, a stranger, about your innermost thoughts, ideas, dreams and fears, and I hope I can offer you some reassurance here.

My style of practice is known as Integrative which means that I use different types of therapy and approaches as are best suited to you and your unique needs.

As appropriate, l may use an approach which considers how your past influences you today, or ask you to consider how you relate to others including friends and family. We may explore how different aspects of you work within you, or focus on your awareness of feelings and thoughts as they are right now, or we may think about your underlying philosophy of life and existence and how that influences your thoughts and feelings. By unbottling the thoughts, ideas and anxieties that you have been holding inside you will begin to feel more at ease with yourself and everyone else and this can and usually does, lead to a better sense of well-being.

Next steps

Why not contact me and find out more, I would like to see if I can help. We can have a short chat on the phone (07776 146427) and I will endeavour to answer any questions you might have. I appreciate it can be difficult to reach out and ask for help and I will be respectful of that, or if you prefer, you can email me on penny_a_cole@yahoo.co.uk.

If you would like to talk further, that could be followed by a first session where we could continue to explore your concerns and what you might want from therapy. This session will allow you to see if I am the right person for you and whether the therapy I offer suits you. There would be no obligation to continue. If, following the first session, we decide that we can work together, we will agree a day and time to meet weekly afterwards.

Where to find me

My face-to-face practice is located at HR5 3EN, please get in touch for further information on my practice location. Sadly, I am unable to offer wheelchair access to the property.

I recognise that Covid-19 has led to financial hardship for many, and so I offer reduced rates in appropriate circumstances.

I review my fees annually at the start of the calendar year.

Will my insurance pay for your fees?

Who am I?

I have been working as a psychotherapist and counsellor since 2008, and prior to that I had a career in legal practice. From an early age, I had been motivated by a desire to help others and, having become increasingly disillusioned with legal practice, and, having gained a lot of insight into myself through my own psychotherapy, I decided to train as a psychotherapist.

I studied at the School of Psychotherapy at Regent’s College London where I was awarded a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy & Counselling and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling.

Penny Cole

Whilst in training as a psychotherapist, I gained experience in a variety of settings, including an NHS Hospital where I worked as an Honorary Psychotherapist, community counselling services, and a university counselling service.

Between 2008 and 2020, alongside my psychotherapy practice, I worked part-time as a Workplace Mediator helping individuals deal with their conflicts in the workplace. I no longer undertake commissions to conduct workplace mediations and currently concentrate my efforts on my psychotherapy and counselling practice.

My formal qualifications are:

Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (Regent's University)

MA Psychotherapy & Counselling (City)

LLb (Hons)

Accredited Mediator (Regent's University)

I am a Member of UKCP (United Kingdom for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and as such, I am bound by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure currently in force.
